Before her car was stolen while her 6-year-old son was inside an apartment building in Columbus, an Ohio woman attempted to stop it from being taken and died. On Thursday morning, The Columbus Dispatch reported that Alexa Stakely passed away at a hospital following the incident. The mother, 29, allegedly went to an apartment building on Blue Knoll Drive at 1:30 a.m. on Thursday to pick up her son from a babysitter, according to police reports. As to the newspaper, Stakely drove her Honda CRV with her sleeping child was inside and went back to retrieve some of the boy’s stuff.
Stakely noticed someone behind the wheel of her car backing out onto the road when she went back outside, according to the Columbus Dispatch. He was then heard yelling for her child and telling the car to stop as he chased after her.
According to reports, she climbed upon the car’s hood, but the driver then hit her, causing her to fall to the ground. It was said that she sustained a “fatal wound” to her head. Afterwards, the Honda CRV was deserted, and two males were observed fleeing from it. Now, police are searching for them. There were no wounds to the youngster. At Winchester Trail Elementary School in Winchester, Ohio, stakely was employed, the school said on Thursday. Her profession was speech-language pathology.
“Alexa was passionate about children and speech-language therapy,” a statement from the school said. “She was smart and compassionate, and she cared so much about helping children develop their ability to communicate. She was a great mom who was incredibly dedicated to her son. Ms. Stakely made a difference in the lives of the students and families she worked with and will be missed by so many in our community and beyond.”
