The real-life Maratha of Baby Reindeer series, Fiona Harvey filed a lawsuit against Netflix on 6 June, 2024 for faking her identity in the series by Netflix. The case was filed in the U.S. District Court and she seeks damaged in the amount of $170 million dollars. Baby Reindeer quickly became a hit for Netflix, earlier this year which earned 56 million views in its first 26 days. The Netflix and star Richard Gadd preferred to remain silent on this matter. But the Netflix issued a statement on June 7, 2024 that, “We intend to defend this matter vigorously and to stand by Richard Gadd’s right to tell his story.”

Scottish woman sued Netflix for defaming her in its series

Baby Reindeer was premiered on April 11, 2024 by which the internet sources started trying to uncover the real identity behind Marath’s character. Then, they identified her as a Scottish Attorney Fiona Harvey and this big reveal made Harvey to tell people that she was facing personal attacks and death threats which lead her life to an emotional distress. She did so to clear her names in public eyes.

In the web series, Harvey was sentenced to five years in prison for being accused as twice convicted stalker but the Roth Law Firm said she had no criminal record and this scene was completely fake. The proof regarding same provided was a DBS Certificate and a ClearCheck background report which highlighted that there were no criminal conviction did by Harvey in past.
