Suspect of firing at an Amazon fulfillment center died on Sunday through shooting by the officers of Columbus police following him. The shooting Amazon happened around 4:45 p.m. at a facility in the 6400 block of State Route 29 Northeast in West Jefferson.
As soon as the officers from multiple departments arrived at the firing place, the employee had left from the facility. Then the officer found the suspect in the area of Georgesville and Clime roads about 90 minutes later.
A Columbus police dispatcher informed that the suspect was fired at least one shot and he was then taken to the Doctors West Hospital around 6:50 p.m. and 10 minutes later he was declared dead. The dispatcher did not confirmed if the shot was by an officer in the starting but later on Brian Steel, FOP president confirmed on Sunday that officer fired back at the man.
The injured officer was listed stable at Grant Medical Center and is not released yet. “The officer’s doing good, by the grace of God,” Steel said outside Grant Medical Center late Sunday night.
Brandon Smith, West Jefferson Police Chief told Karli VanCleave that “there were bullet holes on front entry and the glass. (The shooter) didn’t go any further than the front area of the building.” But there was no injuries reported at Amazon.
