Authorities revealed in a statement that a Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police officer passed away on Monday from a self-inflicted wound. Just south of Charlotte-Douglass International Airport, at the 7300 block of Steele Creek Road, arrived first responders from MEDIC and Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police. To transport the officer to the hospital as soon as possible, intersections were closed.
Roads will be closed for a while, they said, but they are not searching for any suspects and the public is not in danger.
If the officer was on duty at the time, the CMPD did not say.
