KP Yohanna, the Metropolitan Bishop of believers Eastern Church Athanasius Yohan met with a car incident which lead to his death at a hospital on Wednesday in United States. After the accident he was seriously injured and died due to a sudden cardiac arrest at a hospital situated in Dallas, Texas, announced by the Church.
Bishop was 74-year-old, who was born in 1950 in a Mar Thoma Syrian Church family in the Upper Kuttanad village of Niranom. He had founded the Believers Eastern Church as part of the Gospel for Asia (GFA) World Apostolate in 1993. It was then consecrated its bishop in 2003.
Yohanna’s death has been mourned by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and his cabinet colleagues.
As per the Church officials, this accident was not a case of hit and run and no one is under suspicious. The police officials found a vehicle which was involved in the accident. Yohan was then taken to the hospital just after the accident.
The Church statement read; “With profound grief and sorrow, we would like to inform you that His Holiness Athanasius Yohan 1, our honourable Metropolitan, reposed in the Lord this evening, the 8th of May 2024.” Synod will announce the further details very soon.
