Grayson Murray died at age of 30 and several questions have been raised to know the cause of death. The cause of death was cited wither by PGA tour or the US Golfer and family members of two-time PGA tour winner. The news of his demise was released by the PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan mentioning unspecified illness as a cause and it was released just after the day when he withdrawn from the Charles Schwab Challenge at Fort Worth.

Murray was receiving treatment for alcoholism and was struggling with his mental health, as said by Murray in 2021 on his social media handle after winning in January. “Yeah, my parents have been through, you know, hell and back basically for the last six years with me fighting some mental stuff,” Murray said at the time. “It’s not easy on me, and the people around me that love me, they don’t like to see me down. They’ve been my No. 1 supporters. There’s a few friends as well that have been there and it makes these moments a lot more special.”

Murray got suspended form the PGA in 2021 after being accused in a alcohol-related incident at a hotel bar in Hawaii. For this he wrote, “Why was I drunk?” he added, “alcoholic that hates everything to do with the PGA Tour life and that’s my scapegoat.”

Murray was ranked 46th in the Official World Golf Ranking after a successful 40-foot put to win the Sony Open in Hawaii in January 2024. This event marked the great achievement in his career and a great comeback after years of struggle with his mental health. “Best thing and worst thing that ever happened to me was winning my rookie year, but also feeling like I was invincible,” Murray said. “I’m a different man now, and I would not be in this position right now, today, if I didn’t put that drink down eight months ago.” He added, “I hope I can inspire a lot of people going forward that have their own issues.”
Monahan was asked that is the golfer who may be suffering from mental illness are not helped by the PGA tour. “Just want to be clear. We don’t know the circumstances around Grayson’s passing,” Monahan said. “My conversations with Grayson in the past, you know, in the area of mental health, we’re always challenging ourselves to make certain that we’re on the front edge of being able to provide the support that we can for everybody out here.
